New Century Careers
Terminal Buildings, East Carson Street, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
A new 9,500 sf machine technologies training facility designed for New Century Careers, a non-profit organization that provides job training and retraining in the CNC-driven machining and manufacturing industry. The new facility, located in the Pittsburgh Terminal Building, provides an environment for vocational education that is functional and attractive. New Century Careers wanted the facility to enhance their efforts in presenting the machinist career as desirable and forward-looking. The adaptive re-use project transformed warehouse space into a clean, well-organized
area, which complements New Century Careers’ unique program. The existing warehouse was completely gutted and replaced with new interiors in an industrial design vocabulary. Exposed structural elements were painted to reflect their industrial roots. The new facility includes a computer laboratory, locker rooms, production area, lunchroom, kitchen, reception desk, and a new street entrance with canopy. The building also includes 5,500 sf of loft-style administrative offices.
